Blogging party leaders

E-governance at its partisan best
This is truly incredible.

I know lots of people in lots of different fields are using blogs to get their points across these days, but never in my life did I expect a major national party leader to blog about his tie at a summit.

Well, Canadian Liberal Party Leader and former Environment Minister Stephane Dion (who has a dog named Kyoto) has been doing just that -- blogging from Bali.

Stephane Dion's Bali Blog, as it is called, is if nothing else an ingenious piece of electoral campaign publicity.  With a big "Donate Now" button on the right-hand margin, there is no second guessing what's really going on here.  But it is fascinating to read the way Dion writes about himself and other delegates -- meetings with such messiahs as Al gore, etc... -- and their contributions to the UN climate change conference that's got even the most politically apathetic voters taking interest.  I suspect an especially high proportion of Canadians fall into that category, having been shocked in recent weeks to find out that their country, oh so green, is in fact a major climate change villain.

Trust those Liberals to be enterprising, if little else, eh?
