I called the number and from what I could tell of my fragmeneted understanding of Mandarin, it seemed to work with basic sentences translated from English. We're one step closer to the Babelfish, which is a creature introduced by Douglas Adams in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - it could translate any language into any other language.
