Globalization of Human Mind

Spiritual Growth Through Education

Purpose and Scope

The intent of this blog is to argue for the creation of a new educational discipline to teach universal spirituality. The purpose of this discipline is to raise the consciousness of humankind to build one human family in the wider world community.

The intent of this blog is to draw attention to the need of universal spiritual education to complement the current educational curricula. The proposed spiritual education will highlight the unity underlying the diversity of all beings in the universe; and aspires to develop a common identity to promote the feeling ofone human family amongst the world community.

It is argued thatthe proposed educationalinitiative will address the divisive problems of intolerance rampant in today’s world. This is a crying need of the global village that our world has become due to the fast paced developments in modern science and technology.

Religions primarily build and promote communities of believers in their respective religions. Christians promote Christianity, Hindus promote Hinduism, Muslims promote Islam, and so on. Religious communities are known to get divisively overzealous in their efforts. Spirituality deepens religious understanding and dulls the edge of its overzealousness. It builds a unifying family of humankind as a part of the larger world community. It strengthens and sublimates religious faith rather than undermining it. We need to teach our young people that each of them is unique and yet the same in the unity of our one and only infinite ultimate reality. We are all here for a unique purpose. Equally together we make up the human family in the world community. With this knowledge, our children will grow up loving each other instead of loving to hate each.

The blog points to the need for a deep consciousness raising effort in order to build one overarching human identity. It suggests that education at different academic levels is the ideal medium for doing so. The design, development and delivery of the resulting curricula must be based on sound, pragmatic, and universal criteria for universal applicability to students of diverse backgrounds. It builds its' arguments for a curriculum framework on a careful examination of first principles such as spirit, spirituality, spiritual education, ultimate reality, the physical universe, individual being, spiritual growth, human essence, human condition etc. It recommends a methodology for the development of teaching resources so that all perspectives are duly represented in an integrated and harmonized manner. Now is the time for trying this novel approach which has never been tried before in the history of humankind.

The blog also introduces an organization called Spiritual Heritage Education Network Inc. (SHEN), which is dedicated to the development of teaching and learning resources and promoting education in the discipline of universal spirituality as envisaged in this blog.
