CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS


The Canadian International Council (CIC) invites young Canadians (35 years of age and under) enrolled in a post-secondary education program or in the initial stages of career development and non-Canadians enrolled in a degree program at a Canadian university or college to submit applications for CIC’s 2008 Youth Symposium Examining the Canada-U.S. Relationship: The Border, the Arctic, Energy & Climate Change in Toronto, Ontario.

Applications are welcome from those wishing to be panellists or delegates. Symposium attendance is limited to seventy-five (75) participants. The Symposium consists of three themed panels:

(a) The Canada-U.S. Border: Security and Prosperity?
(b) Arctic Sovereignty, Arctic Security or Arctic Cooperation?
(c) Energy & Climate Change: Options for a Sustainable Future

The deadline for all applications is Thursday 29 May 2008 at 9:00am EDT. Authors will be informed of acceptance by Tuesday 3 June 2008.

Submissions and Symposium participation are welcome in both English and French.


APPLYING AS A PANELLIST - SUBMITTING AN ABSTRACT

Abstracts must…

  • Relate to one of three broad themes: (a) The Canada-U.S. Border: Security and Prosperity?; (b) Arctic Sovereignty, Arctic Security or Arctic Cooperation?; and (c) Energy & Climate Change: Options for a Sustainable Future;
  • Be no more than 500 words and have a title;
  • Be accompanied by a CV of the author with full contact information;
  • Be spell-checked and proof-read;
  • Research presented at another venue will be eligible, but the abstract should clearly acknowledge previously presented work with the meeting name and date of presentation.
  • Be submitted via email to Laura Sunderland (lsunderland@canadianinternationalcouncil.org) by Thursday 29 May 2008 at 9:00am EDT.

Should your abstract be selected…

  • Your return travel to Toronto will be reimbursed up to a maximum amount (see table below) and two (2) nights shared accommodation will be provided;
  • You will be offered complimentary registration at CIC’s Annual Foreign Policy Conference titled After the 2008 US Presidential Election: Opportunities for Canada? / Après les élections américaines de 2008 : opportunités pour le Canada?  to be held in Toronto 19-20 June 2008;
  • You will receive complimentary CIC membership for one year if you are not already a CIC member;
  • You will present your research at the symposium on Wednesday 18 June 2008.

APPLYING AS A DELEGATE

A  number of spaces will be available to non-presenting participants (delegates), who will be eligible for partial travel reimbursement (see table below), one (1) night shared accommodation, complimentary conference registration, and a one-year CIC membership. If you are interested in attending as a delegate, please submit a CV and a 300 word statement of interest to Laura Sunderland (lsunderland@canadianinternationalcouncil.org) by Thursday 29 May 2008 at 9:00am EDT.

Those living in Toronto and its environs are not eligible for travel or accommodation subsidies but are encouraged to apply to participate as a panellist or delegate.
