On October 25, 2007, over 500 members of Canada's business, academic, media and policy communities gathered to celebrate the creation of the Canadian International Council. In his address, Co-CEO of Research in Motion and CIC chair Jim Balsillie stressed the importance of funding the best Canadian research, analysis and training to produce policy recommendations on important international issues. At this event, Mr. Balsillie also presented the first annual 'Globalist of the Year' award to OECD Secretary-General Ángel Gurría in recognition of his contribution to multilateralism. Mr. Gurría's address stressed "the enormous potential of global integration and international co-operation to make the world a better place."

The CIC dinner, an event to be held annually, will continue to be an important part of the CIC's fundraising and public engagement efforts in future years.
