About Us
The Vancouver Branch has a long and proud history, drawing together the academic, diplomatic and downtown Vancouver business communities for many decades. The branch is well placed to address Asia Pacific issues and to avail itself of resident experts in the area. Links with organizations such as the Asia Pacific Foundation, university groups, corporations, government and NGO’s ensure a wide spectrum of speakers, subject matter and breadth of audience. Our current membership is broad-based, and includes academics, students, lawyers, business people, members of the consular corps, former senior diplomats and others interested in international affairs.
In 2003, Vancouver member, Dean George Curtis, was honoured as the longest serving member of the CIC (then the Canadian Institute of International Affairs) when he was presented with a plaque by The Honourable Bill Graham. Dean Curtis, who had been active in various branches since 1932, served a total of 73 years at the time of his passing in 2003. Our dynamic and quickly growing branch has hosted The Right Honourable Kim Campbell, The Honourable Bill Graham, and His Excellency David Wilkins, US Ambassador to Canada, to name but a few. Branch events vary and include luncheons, receptions, dinners and student debates.
