The Montreal branch of the CIC has existed since the beginning of the CIIA in 1928, and has always attracted prominent members of society and presented noteworthy talks to its community. Prof. John Humphrey, the author of the UN Declaration on Human Rights, was a member and led the Montreal chapter in the 1950s. In 1980, Ken Taylor, Canada's Ambassador to Iran spoke about his experience during the siege of the U.S. Embassy shortly after returning from Iran.

The CIC organizes regular events in Montreal. Our members include people from diverse backgrounds interested in an educated and first-hand view of what’s happening in the world, as well as in our nation’s position regarding international issues. Speakers include diplomats, NGOs, military personnel, people in political life, business people and media. CIC Montreal has recently been privileged to welcome speakers such as Colonel Mike Capstick adviser to President Karzei in Afghanistan; Ambassador David Collins, Canada's High Commissioner to Pakistan; Mr. K. Natwar Singh, Foreign Minister of India; Mr. Gwyn Morgan, Vice-Chairman of Encana; and Mr. Stewart Bell of the National Post.
